BOX 1538 2424 NORTHGATE DRIVE., SUITE 3, SALISBURY, MD 21802-1538 INS-SCH-PR-007 Expectations of the class, which include grading practices approved by the school principal, will be reviewed by the teacher and be made clear at the beginning of the academic school year to students during class and to the parents/guardians during the scheduled classroom visitation opportunity held in the beginning of the school year. During the first week of class, each classroom teacher will provide, review and send home with each student a written document that explains his/her grading practices and requirements for make-up work due to absence. 2. Mid-term Progress Reports Midterm progress reports will be published to Parent Portal for parents/guardians at the midpoint of each marking period. After publication of the midterm progress reports, parents/guardians will be notified if a student is dropping more than two letter grades, drops to a D, or is in danger of failing. 3. Report Cards Report Cards will be published to Parent Portal for parents/guardians in grades 1 through 5 following the close of the marking periods 1, 2, 3, and 4. The final report card will reflect both the grades earned during the final marking period and the overall final grade for the school year. 4. Make-Up Work a. Any student absent for reasons coded as lawful or unlawful will have the privilege of making up work for credit. b. The make-up procedure for short-term (five days or less) absence will require the following: i. The student/parent/guardian must request the missed assignments. ii. Teachers are responsible for providing make-up work upon request for students who are lawfully or unlawfully absent. iii. Students will be given the number of days equal to the number of days absent to turn in completed make-up work. When possible, assignments may be provided prior to a lawful absence if requested by the parent/guardian at least two weeks in advance of the absence and approved by the principal or designee. Submission of the makeup work provided prior to a lawful absence is due upon the return to school unless extenuating circumstances have been documented by the parent/guardian. c. The make-up procedure for long-term (six days or more) absence will require the following: i. The student/parent/guardian must request the missed assignments. ii. Teachers are responsible for providing make-up work upon request for students who are lawfully or unlawfully absent. iii. A reasonable timeline for the completion of the work will be established.
