 Promote positive attitudes regarding the role of police officers in society and inform students of their rights and responsibilities as lawful citizens.  Establish a liaison with school personnel in a cooperative effort to prevent disruptive or violent behaviors.  Promote close working relationships between law enforcement officers, students, parents, and faculty, improve communications, and promote mutual respect for all parties. Searches Every principal, assistant principal or authorized security officer of a public school may conduct a reasonable search of a student on the school premises if there is reasonable belief that the student has in their possession an item the possession of which is a criminal offense under the laws of this state or is a violation of school rules. The search must be made in the presence of a third party. Every principal, assistant principal or authorized security officer of a public school may conduct a search of the physical plant of the school and its appurtenances including students’ lockers.
